Pest Plants

There are a wide range of Pest Plants growing in our gardens that we dont recognise. Some such as privet and woolly nightshade can cause respiratory distress  Рespecially with asthmatics. Woolly nightshade drops small fibres when knocked and these do cause most people respiratory problems.

Common pest plants in our gardens are:

  • Privet
  • Woolly Nightshade
  • Wild Ginger
  • Pampas (must be removed and destroyed)

Because of dumping in the gullies there are many instances of noxious plants such as :

  • Mignonette Vine
  • Moth Plant
  • Catherdral Bells

Yellow flag iris and parrot feather are another two noxious plant that we are helping to manage and eradicate from within the HCC gullies we are assoicated with.

For specific information on pest plants visit the Waikato Regional Council website and type in pest plants in the search box. This will take you to all the Fact Sheets on pest plants.
